Nollywood actress Biodun Okeowo, popularly known as Omoborty, has opened up about the sacrifices she made as a single mother while celebrating a major milestone in her son’s life.
Over the weekend, Zoyols Blog reported that the actress proudly celebrated her son after he graduated from Concordia University of Edmonton, Canada. Marking the special occasion, Biodun reflected on the years of determination, sacrifices, and unwavering faith that carried her through the journey.
According to her, every sleepless night, every bill she struggled to pay on her own, and every difficult moment she endured became worthwhile the moment she watched her son walk across the graduation stage. She noted that although she navigated the journey as a single parent, God remained her source of strength throughout the process.
Wanting to inspire other parents facing similar challenges, the actress shared details of her experience and urged single mothers and fathers not to lose hope, no matter how demanding the journey may seem.
Biodun revealed that she deliberately cut back on social activities and stopped attending many parties so she could channel her earnings toward her son’s education. She explained that studying abroad comes with enormous financial responsibilities, leaving little room for luxury or unnecessary spending.
She recalled painful moments when she had to part with some of her treasured gold jewellery to meet tuition payments. There were also times she stared at mounting bills, unsure of how she would overcome the next hurdle. Some of the most emotional moments, she said, were the video calls she shared with her son, during which both of them would often break down in tears as they faced the realities of the situation.
Expressing gratitude to God, the actress said she remains humbled by how far they have come. She acknowledged that her success in seeing her son through university was not achieved by personal strength alone but through divine grace and favour.
Biodun admitted that there were occasions when she questioned the enormity of the responsibility she had taken on. Funding an international education, she explained, is not something that can easily be sustained through occasional loans or public support. Yet she remained committed to ensuring her son received the opportunity she believed would shape his future.
She also addressed the misconceptions people often have about those who appear successful on social media. According to her, many people assume that anyone sponsoring a child abroad must be financially comfortable. As a result, they expect such individuals to have endless resources available to help others.
The actress pointed out that while people see polished photos and public celebrations online, they rarely see the sacrifices, worries, and responsibilities happening behind the scenes. Many of life’s biggest burdens, she said, are carried privately and never make their way onto social media.
For that reason, Biodun said she would not apologize for celebrating her son’s achievement extensively. To her, the graduation represents years of prayers, faith, tears, sacrifices, sleepless nights, and unwavering trust in God.
Watching her son complete his studies, she added, has made every difficult moment worthwhile. Overflowing with gratitude, she offered thanks to God for seeing her through one of the most challenging and rewarding chapters of her life.
