The defection of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has left former Deputy National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, stunned. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, George revealed that he never saw the move coming, despite several interventions by party elders to persuade Mbah to stay.
According to George, numerous PDP leaders visited Mbah to convince him to remain in the party. However, their efforts were in vain, as Mbah ultimately decided to leave. George expressed his disappointment, questioning the rationale behind Mbah’s decision, especially given the party’s efforts to settle internal disputes and set the stage for its convention.
George emphasized that the PDP is strong enough to withstand recent defections, describing the party as an “iroko tree.” He wished Mbah well in his new endeavor, noting that this is not the first time politicians have switched parties. George’s sentiments reflect the party’s confidence in its ability to weather challenges and emerge stronger.
The PDP stalwart also expressed surprise that Mbah would abandon the party’s fold, especially when the South-East zone was poised to benefit from the party’s internal arrangements. George’s comments suggest that Mbah’s decision was unexpected, given the potential opportunities that lay ahead for him within the PDP.
