Bukky Wright Defends Women Against ‘Gold Digger’ Claims

Zoyols News

Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has shared her thoughts on the long standing debate surrounding women being described as gold diggers in relationships, insisting that women should never feel guilty for expecting to be well cared for by their partners.

Speaking during a recent interview, the actress said it is a man’s duty to provide for the woman he chooses to be with. According to her, every woman deserves to be valued, respected and properly taken care of, adding that a woman should always be a source of pride to the man in her life.

Bukky maintained that she would never encourage any woman to lower her standards simply to be in a relationship. She argued that men who are not financially prepared for the responsibilities that come with dating should either choose partners within their means or wait until they are ready.

Expressing her displeasure over the common use of the term “gold digger,” she questioned why women are criticized for expecting stability and support from their partners.

“I don’t like hearing men call women gold diggers. What exactly do they expect women to dig? I will never advise any woman to settle for anything less than gold. If you cannot afford the kind of woman you want, then go for someone within your financial capacity.”

Her remarks add to the ongoing conversations about finances and modern relationships, with several public figures recently sharing similar opinions.

Media personality Toke Makinwa recently stated that every relationship involves some form of exchange, describing relationships as transactional by nature. She also encouraged people to date within their financial level, explaining that significant income differences often create unnecessary pressure and misunderstandings between partners.

In another conversation, Makinwa advised women to choose partners who reach out after disagreements simply to check on their well being. She said lasting relationships are built with people who remain committed during difficult moments and who seek peace and understanding instead of trying to win every argument.

Veteran actor Emeka Ike also weighed in on the subject, saying love and marriage are not scams. According to him, the real problem comes from individuals who enter relationships with selfish motives or financial interests. He further urged women not to allow social media to define their expectations of marriage, noting that every relationship has its own unique journey.

Actress Beverly Osu previously challenged the tendency to blame people for choosing the wrong partners while ignoring those who deliberately pretend to be someone they are not. She called on society to hold deceptive individuals accountable for manipulating others through false identities.

Comedian Funny Bone also encouraged women who have become fearful of relationships because of negative stories online to be intentional about the content they consume. He advised them not to let painful experiences shared by strangers shape their opinions about people they have never met, reminding them that someone else’s experience should not determine how they approach love and commitment.
