Jean-Guy Blaise Mayolas, president of the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFOOT), has been handed a life sentence following his conviction in a major corruption scandal that has shaken the country’s football scene.

The court ruling, delivered on Tuesday after months of investigations, found Mayolas guilty of multiple offenses, including embezzlement, money laundering, and document forgery. He did not appear for the hearing and was sentenced in absentia. In a dramatic extension of the case, the court also sentenced his wife and son to life imprisonment for their involvement in the scheme.

Prosecutors revealed that the case centered on the alleged misappropriation of funds provided by FIFA for football development in Congo, with the money intended to support grassroots programs and national football initiatives. The verdict marks one of the most significant legal actions against football officials in the country, sending a clear warning against corruption in sports administration.
