Dangote Group has firmly denied any ownership of a cement truck involved in a deadly accident in Enugu State on Wednesday.
The crash occurred around 9 a.m. along the Ozalla/4-Corner stretch of the Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway. A Howo truck, bearing the inscription “Visco Investment Global” and loaded with cement, collided with a Toyota Corolla attempting to overtake another vehicle. The tragic incident claimed six lives.
Following the accident, social media reports circulated suggesting the truck belonged to Dangote Group, citing the company’s brand markings. The industrial giant quickly refuted the claims. In an official statement, Dangote Group clarified that the vehicle was not part of its fleet and was operated by a third party.
“We are investigating why our logo appeared on this truck despite it not being part of our operations,” the company said. “Going forward, we will apply stricter oversight to prevent unauthorized use of our brand, particularly on vehicles that have no connection to the Group.”
The statement added, “While it is not our usual practice to comment on individual incidents, the spread of misinformation linking this tragedy to Dangote Group necessitated a response. We urge the public and media to avoid sharing unverified claims.”
Dangote Group also emphasized its commitment to supporting authorities in the investigation, stressing the importance of allowing inquiries to proceed without interference. “We strongly reject any attempts to exploit such tragedies for malicious or financial gain,” the company concluded.
