Egypt have extended the contract of head coach Hossam Hassan after he guided the national team to the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time in the country’s history.
The Pharaohs bowed out of the tournament in the round of 16 following a dramatic 3-2 defeat to defending champions Argentina, but their campaign was still seen as a major milestone for Egyptian football.
The Egyptian Football Association confirmed Hassan’s contract renewal, backing the former striker to continue leading the team after a World Cup outing that delivered a landmark achievement for the country.
Hassan has been in charge of Egypt since February 2024, and the decision to retain him signals the federation’s confidence in the direction of the national team under his leadership.
In a statement, EFA president Hany Abo Rida said the extension reflects the federation’s determination to maintain the momentum of the current national team project and build on what he described as the significant progress made by Egyptian football in recent months.
