Ekiti: I want the best candidate to win as Nigeria is no longer safe, says 100 year old woman
A centenarian voter, Madam Oyedade, has called on political leaders to take urgent action against the growing insecurity in Nigeria, saying the situation has made life unsafe for ordinary citizens. She made the remarks on Saturday while speaking during the Ekiti governorship election.
Speaking in Yoruba at Polling Unit 001, Aye Ward, Aye Ekiti in Ido Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State, the 100 year old voter said her decision to come out was driven by her desire to see a capable and qualified candidate emerge victorious in the election. According to her, participating in the voting process was important despite her age because leadership choice affects everyone.
She said she turned out to vote because she wanted the best candidate to emerge. She also expressed deep concern over the state of insecurity across the country, urging President Bola Tinubu along with state governors to act quickly and find lasting solutions that would restore safety and confidence among Nigerians.
Madam Oyedade lamented that no one feels safe anymore in the country, describing the situation as painful and worrying. Her comments came as the Ekiti governorship election recorded steady participation from elderly voters across several polling units, with many arriving early to exercise their civic responsibility despite the challenges of age.
The election period saw a notable turnout of senior citizens who remained determined to take part in deciding the future leadership of the state.
