In a heartwarming display of cultural pride and communal solidarity, the former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Godwin Elumelu, spent his Sunday celebrating with the Onicha-Ugbo Patriotic Union, Abuja Central Branch. The occasion was the union’s New Year Thanksgiving ceremony, which transformed the Fakaz Events Centre in Area 10, Abuja, into a vibrant hub of tradition and festivity.

The atmosphere was electric as the distinguished lawmaker arrived, met by a massive turnout of his kith and kin. The event was not just a social gathering but a deep dive into the rich heritage of the Onicha-Ugbo people. In a move that respected age-old customs, Elumelu presented an assortment of fine wines to the assembly, a gesture that was met with a special traditional prayer led by the Owelle of Onicha-Ugbo, Chief Dr. Atugbokoh.

While addressing the gathering, Elumelu spoke with visible emotion about his deep-rooted ties to the town. He reminded those present that Onicha-Ugbo is more than just a place on a map to him; it is his birthplace and the home of his mother. He praised the residents for maintaining their sense of community and unity despite being far from home, noting that their solidarity is a model for others to follow.

The celebration reached a high point when Elumelu joined other local dignitaries to cut the thanksgiving cake. The audience was further treated to a spirited Okanga dance performance by the vibrant Onicha-Ugbo youths, whose energy and skill drew loud cheers and admiration from the former Minority Leader and other guests.

The day was filled with more than just dancing and dining; it served as a platform for goodwill messages and a renewed pledge by the indigenes to remain committed to the progress of their hometown. As the event drew to a close, the sense of togetherness was palpable, leaving many with a rejuvenated spirit to push for the development of Onicha-Ugbo both within Nigeria and in the diaspora.
