Euro 2025 champions England are set to welcome reigning world champions Spain to Wembley in April for a 2027 Women’s World Cup qualifying clash.
The two teams share a recent and intense rivalry. Spain defeated England in the 2023 World Cup final, only for the Lionesses to claim redemption two years later by beating Spain on penalties in the Euro 2025 final to retain their European crown. Their next encounter is scheduled for Tuesday, April 14, with the evening kick-off time to be confirmed.
“Spain are, of course, one of the best teams in the world, and to play them at Wembley again is exciting,” said Lionesses manager Sarina Wiegman. “We know from the Euro final just how tough they are to play against, and there’s a great deal of mutual respect between the two teams.”
England’s Group A3 opponents also include Iceland and Ukraine. The qualification format mirrors the Nations League, split into three tiers. Only the four group winners from League A will automatically secure a place at the World Cup in Brazil, with remaining teams battling through play-offs for the other eight spots.
Wiegman added, “It’s a challenging group, but our objective is clear: qualify for the World Cup. We are fully focused on that and hope our fans will help us take one step closer to Brazil at Wembley in April.”
