Manchester United avoided a third straight defeat in a week after Matheus Cunha struck late to secure a 1 1 draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
The hosts looked on course for their first Premier League victory of the season after a bizarre own goal from Lisandro Martinez gave them the advantage in the second half.
Fulham had started the period strongly and were rewarded when Calvin Bassey’s effort was parried by United goalkeeper Senne Lammens. The loose ball then struck Martinez and rolled into his own net, leaving the visitors facing another disappointing result.
United, however, continued to push for an equaliser. Bryan Mbeumo came close with a curling effort that forced a superb save from Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno, who had already produced several important stops during an entertaining opening half.
Bruno Fernandes had also struck the woodwork as United created chances, but their slow start after the interval appeared to have put them in serious trouble.
With just a minute left in normal time, Cunha changed the outcome. The Brazilian fired from around 20 yards, with his effort taking a heavy deflection off Fulham defender David Affengruber before wrongfooting Leno and finding the corner.
The goal was a cruel moment for Leno, who had kept Fulham in front with a series of impressive saves throughout the game.
The result means Michael Carrick’s side head into the international break without suffering a third defeat in the space of a week. United sit 12th in the Premier League after collecting five points from their opening five matches.
Fulham, meanwhile, remain 19th with two points. The draw also denied new manager Alvaro Arbeloa a first league victory and prevented Fulham from recording their first home win over Manchester United since 2009.
