Eucharia Anunobi Opens Up About Being Locked Up by Her Father

zoyols

Veteran Nollywood actress Eucharia Anunobi has shared the harrowing struggles she faced before fame, including a difficult and often painful relationship with her father.

In a deeply emotional podcast interview, Anunobi revealed that her father was firmly against her pursuing an education, believing that investing in a girl’s schooling was pointless since she would eventually marry. Despite being financially capable, he withdrew his support and severed ties with her after she refused to follow the career path he had chosen.

Determined to pursue her dreams, Eucharia turned to modelling as a way to fund her education and support herself. She recounted one particularly dark chapter: her father locked her in a room for six months, demanding she fill out employment forms for a job he had chosen. The forms were slid under the door, but she steadfastly refused to comply, standing her ground despite the pressure.

Her father’s disapproval extended to her acting career, forcing her to sneak out of the house and even climb fences to attend auditions. Her perseverance eventually paid off. Winning her first award in London for the film Glamour Girls became a turning point. The achievement softened her father’s stance, and he later blessed her and received the award from her.

Anunobi’s story echoes the experiences of other celebrities who faced parental abandonment. BBNaija star Erica Nlewedim responded to critics questioning her relationship with her formerly absent father, noting that she could not live bitterly toward him and regretted doing so. Late last year, veteran actress Jumoke George spoke about being abandoned by her mother after choosing to stay with her father post-divorce, compounded by tensions with her father’s new wife.

Actor Charles Inojie shared a similar story, recalling how his mother left him at eight months old, and his stepmother’s maltreatment worsened his childhood. Actress Bimbo Ademoye also revealed that her mother abandoned her at age two, though she has since tried to rebuild a relationship and support her mother. Crossdresser James Brown recounted being abandoned by his mother just days after birth, praising his grandmother for her love and support, and explained that he chose to cut ties with his mother despite her attempts at reconnection.

Eucharia Anunobi’s journey is a testament to resilience, determination, and the strength required to chase dreams against all odds, highlighting the challenges many stars overcome behind the scenes before their breakthrough.
