Funke Akindele snubs Toyin Abraham at Iyabo Ojo’s premiere

zoyolsnews

Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has sparked reactions online after seemingly ignoring colleague Toyin Abraham at the premiere of Iyabo Ojo’s latest movie, The Return of Arinzo. In a clip that quickly went viral, Funke was seated alongside Iyabo Ojo and Mercy Aigbe when Toyin approached to greet her, only to be left hanging, leaving many viewers shocked and Toyin momentarily embarrassed.

Social media users were quick to comment. Some noted Funke’s behavior as surprising, while others drew comparisons to her cool, sometimes aloof public persona. One fan wrote, “Aunty Funke is like Wizkid; she lets things slide and only reacts when necessary.” Another called the moment “heartbreaking,” while others expressed disappointment, emphasizing that both actresses are hugely respected in Nollywood.

The incident came as a surprise, given the sisters-in-cinema had shared warmer interactions last year. At Toke Makinwa’s daughter’s dedication, Toyin was seen kneeling to greet Funke, who graciously accepted. During Ginger’s movie premiere, they were also captured exchanging a joyful moment before being interrupted, and even shared a dance on the red carpet.

Funke and Toyin have long been viewed as rivals in the industry, each dominating screens in her own right. Yet, last year, the pair appeared to have settled differences. Toyin celebrated Funke on her birthday, and Funke reciprocated, while Toyin attended Funke’s movie premiere, quelling rumors of ongoing tension.

Earlier in the year, Toyin had penned an open letter addressing how fan wars had fueled a pointless feud, congratulating Funke on hitting a one-billion naira milestone in cinema. Funke responded warmly, wishing Toyin the best.

The latest stir may have been fueled by Toyin teasing a sequel to her hit movie Alakada, set to premiere in December, shortly after Funke announced her own sequel to Jenifa. Toyin later posted a reflective message noting that no one is perfect, people make mistakes, but the key is to learn, grow, and move on—an indirect nod to the ongoing saga between the two powerhouse actresses.

This moment has reignited discussions among fans, reminding the public that even Nollywood’s biggest stars navigate rivalry, pride, and the ever-watchful eyes of social media.
