Germany Sanctions Russia Over Leipzig Drone Attack

Zoyols News

Germany has imposed a new round of sanctions on Russia over what it calls a hybrid attack in Leipzig. The measures include closing the Russian Consulate General in Bonn, stepping up immigration checks on Russian nationals, and increasing pressure on Russia’s shadow fleet.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said the incident shows Russia’s leadership has chosen to worsen already strained relations. He described the Leipzig event as a deliberate move aimed at destabilising and sabotaging European countries.

Alongside the diplomatic steps, Germany plans to push for new EU sanctions targeting individuals linked to hybrid operations and will strengthen coordination with NATO and EU partners to guard against future incidents. Berlin has also summoned the Russian ambassador.

The government emphasised it will continue its support for Ukraine while working to improve its own defence and deterrence within the alliance.
