How a regular Nigerian can live on N3,000 daily — Reno Omokri

Zoyols News
The ongoing debate over the true cost of survival in Nigeria has taken a fresh twist following recent comments from former presidential media aide, Reno Omokri.
Weighing in on the country’s economic climate during a television interview on Sunday Politics, Omokri asserted that the average Nigerian can comfortably get by on a daily budget of three thousand naira. He emphasized that evaluating poverty benchmarks requires looking closely at the unique economic realities of individual nations rather than applying a blanket international standard.
To back up his claim, Omokri shared that he recently took a firsthand, unannounced trip to local markets alongside a journalist, moving around completely without security to check the actual market prices of staple food items. From his ground-level checks on commodities like rice, yam, maize, and various fruits, he concluded that three thousand naira a day is a viable survival threshold locally.
At the same time, he acknowledged the stark contrast when viewed through a global lens, noting that trying to survive on the equivalent amount in a Western nation like the United States would indeed represent extreme poverty. Context, according to him, remains essential when discussing financial struggles and living standards.
What are your thoughts on this assessment, and does a daily budget of three thousand naira reflect your current market experience?
