Renowned Nigerian singer and actor Bankole Wellington, widely known as Banky W, has shared a captivating look into the early days of his relationship with his wife, actress Adesua Etomi. During a recent conversation with Teju Babyface, the “Wedding Party” star opened up about the persistence and faith it took to win over his wife, whom he has been with for over eight years.
Banky recalled a time when he was completely certain that Adesua was his soulmate, even though she didn’t initially share the same feeling. After facing several rejections, he decided to take a step back emotionally and leave the situation in a higher power’s hands. He admitted that he reached a point where he felt he was finally paying for all the hearts he might have broken in the past. He made a quiet vow that he would never bring the topic up again unless Adesua came to that realization on her own.
The breakthrough finally came when Adesua called him after receiving her own spiritual confirmations. She famously asked him, “Banky, you know you’re my husband, right?” Having waited patiently for over a year and a half, Banky’s response was one of calm relief, telling her he had simply been waiting for her to catch up.
Adesua also shared her perspective on their bond, which remains incredibly strong as they approach their tenth anniversary this October. She noted the irony of her life, revealing that she had specifically told God she didn’t want to marry a musician, a pastor, or a politician. However, in a twist of fate, she ended up with a man who embodies all three roles. Despite their busy lives, she highlighted that they remain inseparable, often holding hands unconsciously and staying physically connected even in their sleep.
The couple’s journey has not been without its share of heavy trials. They have been open about the painful loss of their twins to a miscarriage before welcoming their two sons in 2021 and 2024. They also weathered a storm of social media infidelity rumors in 2023, which they handled with a united front, proving their commitment to one another is unshakable.
As they look toward the future, Adesua has publicly expressed her desire to spend at least another fifty years by Banky’s side. While skeptics once predicted their union wouldn’t last six months, the couple continues to prove that their partnership is built on a foundation of friendship and resilience. For Adesua, the best part of her life is simply the opportunity to grow old alongside the man who waited so patiently for her to say “yes.”
