The United Igbo Elders Council, UNIEC Worldwide, has unveiled an ambitious project aimed at capturing the enduring legacy of the Igbo people across the globe. Known as the Great Igbo Achievers Book of Records, this initiative is designed to serve as a permanent archive, meticulously documenting the remarkable contributions made by Igbo individuals throughout history and into the modern era.
The publication is titled “The Great Igbo Achievers Book of Records – Global Heritage Edition.” It is being crafted as a comprehensive institutional resource that tracks excellence across nearly every field of human endeavor. From governance and entrepreneurship to science, arts, medicine, and diaspora leadership, the book intends to provide a definitive record of how the Igbo people have shaped both local and international landscapes.
His Lordship, Alpha Justice Ikpeama, Director General of UNIEC, noted in a recent statement that this cultural milestone will redefine the way the community’s history is preserved. The project is expected to open with ceremonial pages that pay tribute to the rich heritage and resilient spirit of the Igbo civilization, featuring sacred invocations and institutional seals that mark the publication as a formal global archive for future generations.
A central feature of the book will be a segment dedicated to the 50 greatest Igbo achievers in history. This section will highlight individuals whose life work had a transformative impact, ranging from pioneering merchants to visionary scholars. To ensure that the legacy of the past is never forgotten, the book will also include a Roll of Global Igbo Legends and a Hall of Igbo Immortals, focusing on those whose influence transcended their own lifetimes and continues to inspire leadership today.
Beyond honoring historical icons, the publication will feature detailed biographical profiles of distinguished personalities currently making waves worldwide. These entries will go beyond simple milestones, offering reflective legacy statements that capture the essence of their success. To ensure the long-term sustainability of this institution, UNIEC has outlined a fundraising framework with a target of approximately N1 billion. This capital will support the extensive research and production required to keep the archive running for years to come. Funding will be sourced through corporate partnerships, endowments, and goodwill messages from those who value the preservation of historical memory.
The project will culminate in a major event known as The Great Igbo Achievers Legacy Summit. This gathering is expected to bring together governors, traditional rulers, and leaders from the diaspora for the official unveiling of the record and the presentation of legacy awards. Ultimately, the elders believe this initiative will strengthen unity and identity among Igbo communities, serving as a powerful motivator for younger generations to strive for excellence in their respective fields.
