IGP Olatunji Disu visits Maiduguri bombing sites to strengthen security

Zoyols

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu arrived in Maiduguri on Tuesday to personally assess the impact of the recent improvised explosive device blasts that have shaken the city. His visit centered on the victims and the strategic locations affected by the violence, beginning with a somber stop at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. There, the police chief spent time with those receiving treatment, offering words of comfort to the survivors and their families while evaluating the medical support provided to them.

Following his time at the hospital, the Inspector-General moved to the Monday Market, the site of the recent bombing, to inspect the area firsthand. The visit to this busy commercial hub was a significant move aimed at understanding the security lapses that allowed the attack and determining the best way to fortify such public spaces in the future. Reports indicate that the police chief also held high-level meetings at the Borno State Government House and the State Police Command Headquarters to overhaul existing response strategies.

During these sessions, the police chief made it clear that the force is deeply committed to tracking down and dismantling the networks responsible for these cowardly acts. He assured residents that the era of these recurring threats must come to an end, promising a more aggressive and coordinated approach to counter-terrorism in the region. The goal is not just to react to incidents but to proactively identify and neutralize threats before they can harm innocent citizens.

To back these assurances, security across the Maiduguri metropolis has been significantly tightened. Residents will notice a much larger police presence, with increased deployments and enhanced surveillance technologies now active throughout the city. Joint operational measures are also being implemented alongside other security agencies to ensure that public safety remains the top priority. The Inspector-General emphasized that these steps are part of a broader plan to restore a lasting sense of security and peace to the people of Borno State.
