Nigerian media personality IK Osakioduwa has opened up on why he did not return as host for the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, marking the first time he has stepped away from the role since the event began in 2013.
Speaking during an appearance on The Morayo Show, IK explained that his absence was not the result of any dispute with Africa Magic but rather a personal decision guided by his values and convictions.
He said he strongly believes that people are placed in specific roles at the right time, adding that his decision was shaped by what he felt was the right timing for him personally.
Despite stepping away from the hosting duties this year, the veteran broadcaster made it clear that his relationship with Africa Magic remains warm and unchanged. He described the platform as a major part of his media journey and expressed continued mutual respect between both parties.
IK also pointed to his personal principles as a key factor in his decision. He explained that he does not associate with alcohol or tobacco related brands, which featured among the sponsors of the 2026 edition of the awards, making it difficult for him to fully take part in the event as host.
He noted that his values would have limited his ability to deliver the kind of performance expected for such a major production, adding that he preferred to step aside rather than compromise his standards or the expectations of the organisers.
For this year’s ceremony, the organisers selected comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha to take on hosting duties for the 12th edition of the AMVCA.
