The Independent National Electoral Commission is set to hold a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Meeting on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, as Nigeria marks 100 days to the 2027 general elections.
The meeting will provide an opportunity for the electoral body to update Nigerians and other key participants on its level of preparedness for the elections.
According to information made available by INEC, discussions will cover important areas including the voters’ register, nomination of candidates, election logistics and measures being put in place to protect the credibility of the electoral process.
The event will be addressed by the INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, alongside other stakeholders involved in the organisation and conduct of the elections.
The commission said the national stakeholders’ meeting was part of its efforts to promote transparency, keep the public informed and strengthen cooperation among the various groups involved in the electoral process.
Those expected at the meeting include political party leaders, security agencies under the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, members of the diplomatic community, development partners, civil society organisations and election observer groups.
Disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and senior media executives are also expected to participate.
The meeting comes at a crucial stage in preparations for the 2027 general elections, with just 100 days remaining until Nigerians head to the polls.
INEC said the event would be broadcast live on major national television stations and streamed through its official social media platforms, allowing Nigerians who cannot attend to follow the proceedings.
Accredited journalists and invited participants attending the event in person will be required to present their invitation cards or accreditation badges at security checkpoints.
