The Iranian government has reassured Nigerians living in Iran that they remain safe despite growing geopolitical tensions across the Middle East. The assurance was delivered by Gholamreza Mahdavi Raja, Iran’s ambassador to Nigeria, during a press briefing held in Abuja. He said there had been no reports of Nigerian casualties or injuries within Iranian territory despite recent regional military tensions involving Iran and other global powers.
The ambassador explained that Nigerian citizens are spread across several Iranian cities, including Tehran and Qom, but stressed that authorities have not received any reports of harm to Nigerian nationals. He urged families and concerned stakeholders in Nigeria to remain calm, repeating that the situation for Nigerians living in Iran remains stable and secure.
Diplomatic relations between Iran and Nigeria, according to the envoy, have remained steady for more than five decades. He emphasized that the long-standing partnership between both countries continues to help protect the interests and safety of Nigerian residents in Iran. Over the years, the two nations have maintained cooperation in sectors such as agriculture, education, energy, politics, and industrial development, strengthening bilateral ties across multiple areas of shared interest.
The statement came at a time of heightened global attention following accusations by Iran that United States and Israel had conducted attacks on Iranian territory. The ambassador described the attacks as a breach of international law and a violation of the United Nations charter, describing them as deliberate and premeditated acts of military aggression.
He reiterated that Iran remains committed to protecting foreign nationals residing within its borders while maintaining peaceful diplomatic relations with other nations. Updates shared by Zoyols indicate that officials are continuing to monitor the regional security situation while maintaining communication with diplomatic partners.
