Iran launches strike on Tel Aviv after security chief’s killing

zoyols

Iran fired a new wave of missiles at Tel Aviv late Tuesday, describing the move as a direct response to the killing of its security chief, Ali Larijani. The strike reportedly involved missiles equipped with multiple warheads, a tactic that increases both reach and impact.

The overnight attack left at least two people dead in an area close to Tel Aviv, a zone known for its dense population and key military sites. With this latest incident, the number of fatalities in Israel linked to the ongoing conflict has risen to at least fourteen.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard confirmed the use of advanced missile systems, including the Khorramshahr 4 and Qadr models. These weapons are believed to release smaller explosives mid-air, making them harder to intercept and more destructive across wider areas. Israeli authorities have repeatedly accused Iran of deploying such munitions throughout the conflict.

Back in Iran, tensions remained high after a projectile landed near the Bushehr nuclear power facility on Tuesday evening. Officials said the incident caused no damage and did not lead to any injuries, but it has raised fresh concerns. The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, renewed calls for restraint, warning of the risks tied to any escalation near sensitive nuclear sites.

The conflict, now stretching beyond two weeks, has already reshaped Iran’s leadership. Both Israel and the United States have maintained that their actions are aimed at stopping Iran from advancing a nuclear weapons programme. The campaign has resulted in the deaths of several top figures, including the country’s former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Larijani’s death has further deepened the crisis. Iranian authorities confirmed that he was killed alongside his son and a senior aide, Alireza Bayat, in a targeted strike. As secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, he was one of the most influential figures in shaping the country’s security and regional policies.

Despite growing international concern, there is little sign of de-escalation. Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has reportedly dismissed proposals aimed at reducing tensions or reaching a ceasefire with the United States. According to a senior official, he made it clear that negotiations would not be considered until Iran’s adversaries are forced into a position of weakness.

Meanwhile, internal security measures have also intensified. Iran confirmed the execution of a man identified as Kurosh Keyvani, who had been convicted of passing sensitive information to Israel’s intelligence agency.

The ripple effects of the conflict are being felt across the region. In Lebanon, Israeli airstrikes struck parts of Beirut, including the Bachoura district in the city’s centre. Residents reported loud explosions after warnings were issued ahead of the attack. The strikes are part of a broader military push targeting areas linked to Hezbollah, the Iran-backed group that has been drawn deeper into the fighting.

As both sides continue to exchange attacks, the situation is becoming increasingly volatile, with no clear path toward easing the tension anytime soon.
