The Iranian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mahdavi Raja, has firmly rejected remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting foreign involvement in Iran’s leadership. Speaking on Trust TV, Raja emphasized that decisions regarding Iran’s political leadership are strictly domestic and cannot be influenced by external powers.
His comments come amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, where recent attacks on Iranian facilities have raised concerns over regional stability. Despite these developments, the ambassador stressed that Iran’s security apparatus remains fully operational and government functions continue uninterrupted.
Raja highlighted that Iran’s leadership has been clearly defined following the election of Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei as the new Supreme Leader. “With these decisions, the country’s leadership structure is firmly established, and we are confident that the administration will continue smoothly and effectively,” he said.
The envoy also underscored the resilience of the Iranian people, noting their unity in defending national sovereignty. While some infrastructure has been targeted in recent hostilities, key institutions remain intact. “Such attacks cannot break the will of the Iranian people. If anything, they have strengthened our resolve to protect our sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Raja stated.
Responding directly to Trump’s suggestion that the U.S. could have a role in shaping Iran’s leadership, the ambassador dismissed it as unacceptable interference. “This is an internal matter. Iran is an independent country. We make our own decisions, and our people will not allow foreigners to dictate our affairs,” he affirmed.
Raja concluded by reiterating that, despite ongoing tensions, Iran’s government and institutions remain stable and fully functional, reflecting the nation’s longstanding capacity to withstand external pressure and maintain internal order.
