A governance advocate, Isaac Fayose, has expressed confidence that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, could face a major setback in the upcoming governorship election in Ekiti State.
Fayose made the remark while reacting to a viral video that showed a massive crowd welcoming the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate, Dr. Wole Oluyede, during his visit to Ado Ekiti on Friday.
Oluyede, accompanied by his running mate, Hon. Deji Ogunsakin, was in the state capital as part of a strategic engagement with the Muslim community. The visit drew a large turnout of supporters and residents, creating a scene that has since attracted widespread attention across social media platforms.
In the video, the PDP candidate was seen moving through the city alongside a huge number of supporters who openly expressed their determination to unseat the incumbent governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji of the APC, in the June 20 governorship election.
Reacting through a post on his Facebook page, Fayose described the development as a sign that the APC’s hold on the state was weakening. According to him, the level of support witnessed during the visit reflected the growing desire among many residents for a change in leadership.
He further argued that the only path left for the ruling party would be to manipulate the electoral process, insisting that if the election remains free and fair, the people of Ekiti would have the opportunity to choose a different direction for the state.
Fayose also claimed that the influence of former governors and political figures whom he accused of hindering the state’s progress was gradually coming to an end.
Expressing appreciation to those who turned out for the event, he said the large gathering sent a strong message that many residents were no longer satisfied with the current political situation. He added that the turnout reflected a growing demand for change ahead of the governorship poll.
