Israel Afeare, popularly known as Israel DMW and aide to music star Davido, has shared details of the burial arrangements for his late father, Eric Afeare.
The retired Deputy Superintendent of Police passed away on March 2 at the age of 71 after a brief illness. He was said to have died at a hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The family has now released a full programme for his final rites, with most of the activities scheduled to hold in Oguedo Quarters, Ivbiu Ake, in Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State. The reception will later take place in Benin City.
According to the arrangements, the funeral proceedings will begin on Thursday, July 9, 2026, when his remains will be moved from Igue Mortuary to his residence for an overnight wake.
The burial service is set for Friday, July 10, after which the late Eric Afeare will be laid to rest in his compound at Oguedo Quarters, Ivbiu Ake. The interment is scheduled for 10 a.m.
Activities will continue on Saturday, July 11, with another wake planned for the family home in the afternoon. On Sunday, July 12, a thanksgiving service will be held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Ake, beginning at 10 a.m.
The final gathering in his honour will take place on July 19, when friends and family will converge at Crown Heart Pavilion along Country Road in Benin City for a reception starting at noon.
Speaking on the loss, Israel DMW described his late father as a strong pillar in the family and someone who played a key role in keeping everyone united. He expressed sadness over the passing, noting that although the family still needed him, he believed only God knows best.
He is survived by two wives and eight children.
