Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has placed the 2026 fiscal proposal before the Kano State House of Assembly, presenting an estimated figure of more than one trillion three hundred and sixty eight billion naira for lawmakers to review and approve. The document, which he described as the Budget of Infrastructure, Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development, reflects his administration’s intention to drive expansion while strengthening essential public services.
The Governor explained that the plan sets aside over nine hundred and thirty four billion naira for capital projects and more than four hundred and thirty three billion naira for recurrent spending. He said the structure was designed to complete major projects currently under way, consolidate ongoing reforms and open new areas of opportunity for the state.
Education received the largest share with an allocation of four hundred and five billion naira, which he noted represents nearly a third of the entire budget. Infrastructure projects followed closely with three hundred and forty six billion naira, while the health sector was assigned a total of two hundred and twelve billion naira. According to him, the difference between the proposed 2026 budget and the approved plan for 2025 stands at more than four hundred and thirty two billion naira.
Governor Yusuf reported that the 2025 budget had achieved a performance level of seventy five per cent, a result he said reflects the commitment of his administration to responsible implementation. He stressed that the new proposal is aimed at building human capacity, supporting community welfare and advancing physical development across the state.
He expressed confidence in the progress already made in infrastructure, saying that many ongoing and completed projects point to steady fulfilment of the promises he made to residents during the campaign. He estimated that eighty per cent of his initial development blueprint has already been achieved.
The Governor called on the Assembly to give the proposal prompt attention to ensure timely implementation. In his response, the Speaker, Jibril Ismail Falgore, commended the administration’s direction and reaffirmed that lawmakers would work to maintain a consistent January to December budget cycle. He also encouraged ministries and agencies to prepare thoroughly to defend their allocations during the review process.
Zoyols Blog reports that the presentation marks another step in the state’s effort to strengthen governance and improve public welfare through strategic financial planning.
