Afrobeats artist Cross “Kwate” David is making waves once again, not just for his music, but for his commitment to lifting others up. The singer is currently preparing to drop a new project titled From Me To You, and he is marking this milestone by partnering with the Omooba Foundation to donate N5 million toward supporting the less privileged across Nigeria.
For Kwate, this isn’t just a random act of kindness; it’s a reflection of his own difficult path to stardom. Speaking with Reports, the Edo State native shared how his early days in the industry were defined by grit. He recalled the era of physical CDs when artists had to personally trek from one radio station to another just to get a chance at airplay. He noted that the road to success is often narrow and challenging, which is why he feels a deep responsibility to give back now that the universe has favored him.
The singer, who currently resides in the United States, has seen a significant surge in his career recently. His latest tracks have been climbing the charts on social media and landing spots on major Apple Music playlists. Kwate told Zoyols that seeing his hard work pay off on digital platforms served as a huge motivation to reach out and help those who are struggling. He views this charitable work as a necessary way to honor the community that supported him from the beginning.
Kwate’s journey is a long one, stretching back to 1998 when he moved from Edo to Lagos to find his voice. By 2010, he became a household name with the hit Party Dey Here, followed by the successful collaboration Baby Give Me More with Jawo. Over the years, his unique blend of Afrobeats, hip-hop, and dancehall has earned him accolades, including a Best New Artist win at the Global Excellence Awards and nominations at the Mnet Asian Music Awards.
After a short hiatus, Kwate returned to the spotlight in 2024 with his single On Ground, which featured Black IQ and later sparked a remix with Magnito and Portable. His momentum reached a new high in November 2024 when he opened for Davido at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, a major career milestone that solidified his presence in the international scene.
Beyond the stage, Kwate has been highly active in the global entertainment circuit, making appearances at the 67th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles and various NBA events. With his music now receiving airplay on major U.S. radio stations and his iHeartRadio interviews gaining traction, the upcoming release of From Me To You is expected to further cement his status as a versatile force in the diaspora.
