The Lagos State Government has made the LASRRA registration number compulsory for admission into public and private schools from the 2026/2027 academic session.
Schools must obtain and record a valid Lagos State Residents Registration Agency number for every student from Monday, 14 September 2026.
The directive was approved by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tolani Alli-Balogun, and is being carried out through the Office of Education Quality Assurance. In a statement released on Friday by OEQA Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Adepeju Adeyemi, the government said the move is meant to build a full and verifiable database of learners across the state.
Alli-Balogun said the policy sits within a wider plan for a reliable education database that would improve planning, monitoring and how services are delivered. Putting learners on the LASRRA record, he added, should tighten school record-keeping, make identification and verification easier, help tracking, and give agencies credible figures for decisions based on evidence.
Schools are to enter each learner’s LASRRA number in admission and school files and to brief parents and guardians on the new requirement.
