Zoyols News

Classical music enthusiasts are set for an unforgettable evening as tenor vocalist Lemuel Iyalla prepares to host the “King Lemuel Recital Sponsors’ Concert” at the MUSON Centre in Onikan, Lagos.

Scheduled for Friday, May 29, the event is expected to bring a refreshing blend of classical and jazz performances, with Iyalla describing the concert as a form of “music therapy” designed to uplift and soothe audiences through timeless melodies. One of the highlights of the evening will include performances of well loved pieces such as The Sound of Music, alongside other carefully selected classical works.

The concert is being organised in collaboration with The Nubian American Advanced College, with the aim of showcasing classical music content for both television and digital platforms. According to the organisers, the initiative is also designed to expand appreciation for classical music among younger and broader audiences.

The stage will feature an impressive lineup of seasoned vocalists and instrumentalists from Nigeria’s classical and jazz scene. Performers billed for the night include soprano Rachael Adewale, baritone John Onosolease, basso profundo Ken Melo, alongside JustinTall Miyiden, Chyke Martins, soprano Jennifer Maduka and the Udoh Band. Pianists Adolphus Dikibo and Bright Kpalap are also expected to add depth to the musical experience with live accompaniment.

The event is expected to host several high profile guests, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as Special Guest of Honour. Business leader Taiwo Afolabi will serve as chairman of the occasion, while other notable personalities such as Chief Emeka Anyaoku, former Commonwealth Secretary General, media veteran Sam Amuka Pemu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike are also expected to attend.

Iyalla, who studied Industrial Relations and Personnel Management at the University of Lagos, said his journey into music began at the age of eight when his father enrolled him in a church choir in Port Harcourt. That early exposure, he noted, laid the foundation for a career that has since taken him to major stages within and outside Nigeria.

He added that the upcoming concert will not only celebrate musical excellence but also create an atmosphere where performance, storytelling and orchestral expression come together in a memorable experience for all in attendance.
