Kylian Mbappe delivered another standout performance on Thursday night as France booked their place in the semi finals of the 2026 World Cup with a 2-0 victory over Morocco.
The France captain was at the centre of the action from the opening half, winning a penalty that looked set to put his side ahead. But after a long delay before the spot kick was taken, Mbappe’s effort lacked power and was comfortably kept out by Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.
France, however, stayed in control and found their breakthrough after the restart, with Mbappe making the difference once again. The forward opened the scoring before turning provider for Ousmane Dembele, capping another influential display in what has already been a remarkable tournament for him.
Morocco struggled to offer much going forward, a problem made worse by the absence of injured midfielder Ismael Saibari. Their run comes to an end at the quarter final stage after a spirited campaign, but on this occasion they were unable to find a way past a clinical French side.
With Mbappe now up to eight goals at the tournament, France’s title hopes remain firmly alive. Didier Deschamps’ men will now turn their attention to a semi final clash against either Spain or Belgium as they continue their push for World Cup glory.
