2027: Tinubu Faces Tough Battle as Momodu Backs Atiku’s Chances
Publisher of Ovation International, Dele Momodu, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu could face a difficult path to securing a second term in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during an interview with journalist Oseni Rufai on Friday, Momodu, who is a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, shared his belief that the party’s expected presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has a strong chance of emerging victorious.
According to him, Atiku’s chances of winning would be greatly strengthened if he secures overwhelming support across the North while also attracting a competitive share of votes in the South.
Momodu argued that such a voting pattern would make it extremely difficult for both President Tinubu and the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, to prevail at the polls.
He maintained that Atiku is well positioned to win the majority of votes in the North and could also secure at least 25 percent of the votes in no fewer than 26 states. In his view, that combination would give the former vice president a significant advantage in the race.
Momodu further pointed to the constitutional requirements for winning Nigeria’s presidential election, explaining that a candidate must not only receive the highest number of valid votes cast nationwide but must also obtain at least 25 percent of the votes in no fewer than two thirds of the states.
He insisted that if Atiku succeeds in meeting those conditions while maintaining dominance in the North, the outcome of the 2027 presidential contest could tilt decisively in his favour.
