Morocco has emerged as Africa’s highest rated team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after earning the continent’s best average player rating in figures released by football statistics platform FotMob.
The Atlas Lions recorded an average team rating of 7.02, capping another impressive World Cup campaign. Their latest performance further strengthened their growing reputation on the global stage following their historic run to the semifinals at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Egypt finished as Africa’s second highest rated side with an average score of 6.92 after an impressive tournament that ended in the Round of 16. Ivory Coast followed closely in third place with a rating of 6.91, reflecting a series of competitive displays throughout the competition.
Senegal secured fourth position with an average rating of 6.78, while Cape Verde and the Democratic Republic of Congo shared fifth place after both teams posted identical ratings of 6.76. The two nations earned praise for exceeding expectations with their performances.
South Africa ranked seventh with a rating of 6.73 after an encouraging campaign that showcased the team’s steady progress on the international stage.
Algeria occupied eighth place with an average rating of 6.66, while Ghana finished ninth on 6.62 following a tournament that featured flashes of quality alongside disappointing results. Tunisia rounded out the list with a rating of 5.94 after finding it difficult to make a significant impact.
The latest rankings highlight the continued rise of African football at the highest level, with several nations producing strong performances against some of the world’s leading teams. Morocco once again set the standard for the continent, while Egypt, Ivory Coast, Cape Verde, the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Africa also earned recognition for their impressive displays during the tournament.
