Nigeria’s journey at AFCON 2025 came to a dramatic end on Wednesday night, as the Super Eagles fell 4–2 on penalties to hosts Morocco in a tense semi-final clash. Earlier, Senegal secured their spot in Sunday’s final with a 2–1 victory over Egypt in Tangier.
This sets the stage for an exciting AFCON final on Sunday at 9:00 pm, where Morocco will host Senegal, while Nigeria and Egypt face off in the third-place playoff on Saturday at 6:00 pm. Both matches will be broadcast live on SuperSport via DStv and GOtv, with Open Access available for DStv Yanga and GOtv Jolli subscribers.
Despite arriving as one of the tournament’s most formidable teams, Nigeria struggled to carve out clear chances against a disciplined Moroccan side. Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali kept the shootout alive with a crucial save, but missed penalties from Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemaechi ultimately sealed Nigeria’s exit.
Senegal’s semi-final triumph came courtesy of a first-half strike from Sadio Mané. Egypt equalized, but a late Senegalese goal clinched the victory, ending Mohamed Salah’s bid for a second AFCON crown.
As the tournament reaches its climax, all eyes will be on Morocco, hoping to secure a historic home triumph, and Senegal, aiming to defend their title. Meanwhile, Nigeria and Egypt will fight for a podium finish, providing a chance to end their campaigns on a high note after hard-fought tournaments.
SuperSport’s dedicated AFCON channel (GOtv Ch. 59, DStv Ch. 202) promises full coverage of the action, ensuring fans don’t miss a moment of Africa’s biggest football spectacle.
