Nathaniel Bassey:My Wife Had Five Miscarriages During Challenge

Gospel music minister Nathaniel Bassey has opened up about a deeply personal chapter of his life, revealing that his wife suffered five miscarriages, including an ectopic pregnancy, during the period he led the widely followed Hallelujah Challenge.

The Hallelujah Challenge, a month-long online praise and worship session, has drawn thousands of believers from across the world who gather virtually to sing, pray, and share testimonies. Yet, behind the joyful music and countless testimonies of divine intervention, Bassey and his wife were quietly enduring pain that few knew about.

Speaking during the early hours of Friday while leading the ongoing edition, the gospel singer shared that even in the midst of personal heartbreak, he continued to minister. He recalled leaving the hospital to lead the praise session online and returning afterward to be by his wife’s side.

“My wife will have to forgive me for saying this,” he began. “There were times during the Hallelujah Challenge when we had a miscarriage, and nobody knew. I would still come online to sing and dance in worship.”

He went on to recount one particularly difficult period when his wife was hospitalized due to an ectopic pregnancy. “I would leave the hospital to lead worship and come back afterward. The nurses attending to her would say, ‘It was powerful tonight.’ It wasn’t just once or twice, it happened five times,” he said.

Reflecting on those painful experiences, Bassey said they tested their faith but never destroyed it. “When people ask, ‘Where is God?’ I tell them I understand. Through everything, God has been faithful. One of the words He gave us was, ‘Don’t give up on God.’”

Married since 2013, Nathaniel and his wife have since been blessed with two children, a son and a daughter. The singer said their story is a reminder that faith is not the absence of pain but the strength to praise through it.

He encouraged believers facing similar struggles to hold firmly to their trust in God, assuring them that even in silence and sorrow, divine faithfulness never fails.

Zoyols Blog reports that the Hallelujah Challenge continues to inspire millions, serving as a global altar of hope, worship, and unwavering faith in the face of life’s hardest trials.
