The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has launched an investigation into the death of Buhari Haruna, a volunteer worker who lost his life during a Ramadan palliative distribution exercise in the Tudun Wada Local Government Area. The humanitarian event, which was spearheaded by the lawmaker representing the Tudun Wada/Doguwa Federal Constituency, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, turned tragic when the gathering descended into violence.
The corps is working closely with its divisional leadership to piece together the events that led to the worker’s death. The command’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed that Haruna was part of their supporting volunteer staff and that they are currently reviewing the situation to determine the appropriate next steps for justice and accountability.
The incident has quickly spiraled into a heated political controversy. In the immediate aftermath, representatives for the lawmaker asserted that Haruna was killed by hoodlums who sought to sabotage the distribution process. However, that narrative is being sharply contested by local political figures, some of whom have publicly pointed fingers at the lawmaker himself, fueling tensions within the constituency.
As investigators look to clarify exactly what transpired on the ground, the conflicting accounts from both the lawmaker’s camp and rival political actors have cast a shadow over the relief program. For now, the security agency remains focused on its internal inquiry, aiming to separate fact from the competing allegations that have turned a charitable exercise into a serious security and political scandal.
