Nigeria will overcome its security challenges through the combined efforts of the Federal Government, security agencies and support from international partners, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has assured.
Speaking during her first official visit to Ekiti State on Saturday, the First Lady met with members of the Ekiti State Traditional Rulers’ Council at the Government House in Ado Ekiti, where she expressed confidence that the country would emerge stronger despite current security concerns.
According to a statement issued by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, Senator Tinubu said President Bola Tinubu remains fully committed to addressing insecurity across the country. She described the situation as troubling but maintained that significant efforts are already underway to restore peace and stability.
She noted that Nigeria is receiving support from several foreign partners in the fight against insecurity, stressing that the country is too important and too blessed to be intimidated by criminal elements.
The First Lady explained that while some details of ongoing security operations cannot be disclosed because of their sensitive nature, international cooperation continues to play an important role. She cited the United States, France and other developed nations as countries assisting Nigeria in tackling security threats.
Senator Tinubu also stated that many of those responsible for some of the disturbances are not Nigerians, while acknowledging that the country still faces internal security challenges. She expressed optimism that the ongoing interventions would soon yield positive results.
Highlighting Nigeria’s vast potential and natural endowments, she pointed to the beauty and resources found in Ekiti State as evidence of the nation’s greatness. She urged Nigerians not to lose hope, insisting that the country possesses the strength and capacity to overcome its difficulties.
The First Lady further encouraged citizens, especially women, to remain steadfast in prayer and continue believing in a better future for the nation, adding that God remains faithful.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Ekiti State Traditional Rulers’ Council, Oba Adu Adejimi Alagbado, the Ogoga of Ikere Ekiti, praised President Bola Tinubu for policies and programmes aimed at improving the well being of Nigerians. He, however, appealed for urgent action to tackle kidnapping and other security challenges affecting Ekiti State and several parts of the country.
As part of her visit, Senator Tinubu also empowered women traders in the state through a Business Recapitalisation Grant programme. A total of N100 million was distributed to 2,000 petty traders, with each beneficiary receiving ₦50,000 to support and grow their businesses.
