Omotola Dismisses Talk of Rift with Genevieve Nnaji

Nollywood icon Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has finally addressed long-running whispers of a feud between her and fellow actress Genevieve Nnaji, emphatically denying that any real conflict ever existed.

Speaking with Yanga FM, a clip of which surfaced on Instagram on Wednesday, Omotola explained that much of the supposed rivalry was a product of fan speculation and media exaggeration. She stressed that at no point were the two actresses enemies, and the idea of a feud was largely manufactured by external narratives during the peak of their careers.

Mixing English and Pidgin, Omotola recounted how comparisons imposed by the industry and media fueled unnecessary tension. “People don’t need to be best friends, but we talked. Behind film sets, we dey talk normally. Like the way dem dey do with music stars now—Wizkid, Davido—they dey pitch people against each other. Na we they start that kind thing before we even know say we dey quarrel. There was no quarrel,” she said.

She noted that the industry often thrives on competition narratives, with fans and journalists framing young actors against each other. “Everybody dey do hin own thing, and them go pitch you against this person, say na this one be the hottest, na that one be the hottest. But me, where you wan see me dey quarrel? I’ve never been that kind person,” Omotola added.

The actress also highlighted that both she and Genevieve naturally keep a low-profile, which makes personal clashes unlikely. “I’m not always around, and she sef she be that kind person, so where we wan see the quarrel?” she said, putting the rumours firmly to rest.

Omotola’s candid remarks make it clear that while comparisons and media narratives may have stirred speculation, the supposed rivalry with Genevieve Nnaji never existed, reinforcing the respect and professionalism shared between two of Nollywood’s most celebrated stars.
