Former media aide to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Lauretta Onochie, has said the South-East has lined up behind African Democratic Congress presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.
In a post on her X account, Onochie referred to Atiku as the incoming president and said Igboland would be industrialised and transformed if the former vice president takes office. She also thanked people from the South-East who, she said, travel to Abuja every day to deepen friendship and alliance with the North.
If anyone has been wondering why Ndigbo have aligned with Atiku Abubakar, she wrote, this is one of the reasons. She asked those who still did not see it to think it through, repeating that Igboland would be transformed under “our very own incoming president,” Mazi Atiku Abubakar.
Separately, Reports says that Reuben Abati has waved aside Atiku’s complaint over President Bola Tinubu’s three-week holiday in Europe. Atiku, in a statement on Sunday, condemned the trip as unnecessary while Nigerians live with economic hardship.
Reacting on Monday, Abati said the Atiku camp was raising questions that were embarrassing and poorly researched. He argued that the president is entitled to travel wherever he wishes so long as his absence does not cross the constitutional line that would require him to hand over power formally.
