The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in its ongoing battle against kidnapping and violent crime following the arrest of a 32-year-old suspect in the Akwanga Local Government Area. The operation, which took place on Friday, March 20, resulted in the recovery of a high-powered firearm and ammunition.
Details made available to Reports by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, indicate that the arrest was made possible through credible intelligence provided to the Police Mobile Force 38 Akwanga Unit. Reports suggested that a man was sighted in the area in possession of a weapon, prompting an immediate response from security forces.
Acting on this information, a team of mobile police operatives was deployed to the scene at approximately 5:00 p.m. They successfully apprehended the suspect, who has been identified as a resident of the Rugan Hassan area within the Adudu Community of Awe Local Government Area.
During a search conducted following the arrest, officers recovered an AK-49 rifle and four rounds of live 7.56 mm ammunition. The successful recovery of these items is being viewed by the command as a significant step in dismantling criminal networks that have been operating within the state.
SP Nansel confirmed that both the suspect and the recovered weaponry have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for a more detailed investigation. The police are currently working to identify and track down other members of the criminal syndicate associated with the suspect.
Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, the spokesperson reiterated the command’s dedication to maintaining peace and protecting the lives of residents. He also took the opportunity to thank the public for their cooperation, urging citizens to remain vigilant and continue providing the police with the timely information needed to flush out criminal elements from the state.
