Tensions across the Middle East continue to escalate as fresh military actions, political reactions, and security concerns unfold across several countries linked to the growing confrontation involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
Early Thursday morning, residents of Iran’s capital reported hearing several explosions across parts of Tehran. According to reports , Iranian authorities responded by activating the country’s air defense systems as the situation developed.
Around the same time, Iran launched a new round of missile strikes toward Israel. The Israeli military confirmed that alerts were triggered in several cities, including Tel Aviv, warning residents of incoming missiles. Journalists in the region also reported hearing explosions in Jerusalem shortly after the warnings were issued. Despite the tension and loud blasts, Israel’s emergency services later said there were no confirmed casualties.
In Lebanon, an airstrike struck a Hezbollah-controlled area in southern Beirut during the early hours of Thursday. The attack came after Israeli forces issued warnings urging residents to leave the area. Elsewhere along Beirut’s airport highway, Lebanon’s health ministry reported that three people lost their lives after Israeli strikes targeted vehicles traveling along the route.
Further south in the Gulf, a separate incident raised new concerns over maritime safety. A tanker anchored near Kuwait was rocked by a large explosion, according to information shared by a British maritime security agency. The ship’s captain reportedly heard the blast before spotting a small vessel leaving the area. The explosion led to an oil spill in the waters near Kuwait’s Mubarak Al-Kabeer region.
In Qatar, authorities began evacuating residents living close to the United States embassy in the capital as a precaution following the Iranian strikes. Officials described the move as a safety measure while tensions remain high.
Turkish officials also confirmed that a ballistic missile launched from Iran was intercepted and destroyed by NATO air defense systems after it moved toward Turkish airspace through Iraq and Syria. While authorities did not reveal the intended target, Iran’s ambassador in Ankara was summoned by Turkey’s foreign ministry. A Turkish official later indicated that the missile may have been aimed at a military facility in Greek Cyprus before it reportedly veered off course.
Political reactions to the conflict have continued to surface around the world. Former United States President Donald Trump praised what he described as strong performance by American forces in the conflict, claiming that Iran’s leadership was being severely weakened. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also described the joint efforts between Israel and the United States as producing historic results on the battlefield.
Back in Washington, the United States Senate rejected a bipartisan proposal that sought to limit Trump’s authority to continue military operations against Iran. The vote reflected narrow support for the ongoing campaign, with the resolution failing along party lines.
Canada has not ruled out the possibility of becoming involved in the conflict. Prime Minister Mark Carney said his country would stand with its allies if necessary while speaking alongside Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during a meeting in Canberra.
Meanwhile, Spain pushed back against claims from Washington suggesting it had agreed to support American operations from Spanish military bases. Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares insisted the country’s position remained unchanged and that Madrid does not support the bombardment of Iran.
China has also stepped into the diplomatic space, announcing plans to send a special envoy to the Middle East in an effort to mediate and ease the crisis. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Beijing supports Iran’s right to defend its sovereignty while urging the United States and Israel to halt further attacks.
Frustration has also emerged among regional leaders. Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani reportedly criticized Iran during a phone conversation with Tehran’s foreign minister, accusing the country of attempting to pull neighboring states into a wider war.
The growing conflict is also beginning to disrupt global trade routes. Major shipping companies have started suspending cargo bookings through parts of the Gulf after conducting risk assessments. Danish shipping company Maersk and Germany’s Hapag-Lloyd both announced temporary halts in new shipments, following a similar move by China’s Cosco.
Oil markets have reacted quickly to the uncertainty. Prices have risen as Iran warned vessels against using the narrow Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes for oil transport.
Amid the tensions in the strait, the Omani navy confirmed that it rescued twenty-four crew members from a container ship that had been struck by missiles while passing through the waterway. Iranian forces later claimed they had established full control of the area shortly after the incident.
In a separate development far from the Gulf, a tragic incident unfolded off the coast of Sri Lanka after a United States submarine reportedly torpedoed and sank an Iranian warship. Sri Lankan naval officials confirmed that recovery teams had retrieved eighty-seven bodies from the sea following the attack.
