Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has hit back at claims that she has arthritis, using a video of herself dancing to make her point.
Posting on her social media page, she asked whether her critics’ mothers could ever match her strength, energy and flexibility. She said she still moves around, travels, stands for hours and stays active from morning till night.
Rita accused rumour mongers of jealousy because her name is trending. “Can their mothers ever be as strong, active, energetic and flexible as I am? Impossible. Did I perceive that your mother is in the village struggling with her steps? Are you upset that she barely dances as I do?” she wrote.
She added that people who see her touring and working all day still choose arthritis as the story to spread. “I am the mother that mothered their mother. I am strong, I am active, and I am giving you people pressure. You are only jealous because I am trending. My name is everywhere and it is obviously disturbing you. If you are tired of seeing me, delete your social media accounts and free yourself of it, otherwise you will go blind from watching me.”
While some were busy discussing her health, she said she had been on the road promoting and supporting a cinema movie.
Separately, Rita lamented how politics in Nigeria has been cheapened. She said there was a time every contestant had to prove they were up to the job. Now, she argued, almost anyone can run for office without competence, vision or a real plan for the people.
She also spoke on the family dispute around the late actor Mr Ibu. Rita said he did not handle things well and that no amount of public sympathy can hide the damage polygamy has done. She described it as one of the biggest marital mistakes, one that has wrecked peace, unity and harmony in many homes.
