Singer Iyanya Gets Candid About His Struggles With Being Celibate

Zoyols Blog

Popular Nigerian singer Iyanya has opened up about his personal life, sharing a candid look at his ongoing struggle with celibacy and his current views on marriage. The “Ur Waist” crooner didn’t hold back during a recent chat on the Afropolitan Podcast, admitting that staying away from intimacy hasn’t been a straightforward journey for him.

The 39-year-old singer described his commitment to celibacy as something that fluctuates. He admitted that while he often tries to stick to the lifestyle, his resolve tends to weaken when he meets someone he finds attractive. He joked that you can have every intention of staying disciplined until you run into a woman who gives you “all the reasons not to be,” only to find yourself missing that sense of discipline once the moment has passed.

Beyond his struggle with celibacy, Iyanya also touched on why he isn’t rushing to the altar anytime soon. He made it clear that marriage is currently off the table because he simply doesn’t feel mentally ready for that level of commitment. Instead of leading anyone on, the singer says he chooses to be completely transparent with the women he meets.

He explained that his approach to dating has changed significantly with age. In his younger years, he might have told a woman exactly what she wanted to hear just to keep her around, but maturity has taught him a different lesson. Now, he makes it a point to tell his partners that he is still in a season of healing and that they shouldn’t expect too much from him right now.

This newfound honesty, he says, is his way of protecting people’s emotions. By being upfront about not being “in that space,” he avoids playing games or giving false hope. For now, it seems the music star is focused on his own journey and personal growth rather than settling down.
