Sowore Confirms AAC Presidential Run for 2027

Zoyols News

Human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has confirmed that he will contest in the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the African Action Congress.

Sowore made this known during an appearance on a television programme aired on Friday, where he stated clearly that he remains fully in the race ahead of the next general election.

According to him, the AAC is expected to conduct its primary election next week to determine the party’s candidate for the presidency.

When asked if he would emerge as the party’s sole aspirant, Sowore avoided making a direct claim and instead said the final decision rests with the party leadership and members.

He stressed that the process would be left entirely in the hands of the party, adding that members would determine who eventually flies the party’s flag in 2027.

Speaking further on the ongoing digital membership registration exercise ordered by the Independent National Electoral Commission, the activist explained that the AAC has not yet completed the submission of its final membership register.

Sowore also referred to a recent court ruling which, according to him, allows political parties to reopen their registration portals even after submission.

He noted that the judgment gives parties room to continue updating their membership records, while insisting that the AAC never halted its registration process at any point.
