Students of the University of Lagos have successfully organised the second edition of TEDxUNILAG, delivering the conference within just 44 days while securing the backing of several corporate organisations and selling out the early ticket categories before the final phase of ticket sales.
The achievement has drawn attention as a remarkable example of what determined students can accomplish through teamwork, innovation, and effective planning.
Speaking in a statement, the Leader and President of TEDxUNILAG 2.0, Bill, said the success of the conference reflects the resilience, commitment, and hard work of everyone involved in bringing the event to life within a limited time.
Held under the theme “Can’t Hold Us,” the conference showcased a level of organisation and professionalism often associated with well established corporate events. The organising team successfully built a strong brand for the event, managed sponsorship engagements, coordinated ticket sales, and generated public interest that exceeded the available ticket allocation.
Despite having only 44 days to prepare, the students secured support from corporate partners, executed successful sponsorship campaigns, and recorded a complete sell out of the early ticket categories before the release of the final batch of tickets.
According to the organisers, TEDxUNILAG 2.0 represents more than just another conference. It follows the successful return of the TEDx platform to the University of Lagos in 2024 after an absence of almost ten years.
While the event scheduled for June 27 will feature inspiring speakers and thought provoking conversations, the dedication and execution displayed by the student organisers have become a success story on their own.
Bill explained that the conference theme reflects the determination of Nigerians and Africans to keep pushing forward despite everyday obstacles.
According to her, the event represents the reality of life across the continent, where people continue striving for success regardless of the challenges they face. She described it as a powerful reminder that Africans refuse to be held back and continue to pursue their goals with confidence and resilience.
The overwhelming demand for tickets has further demonstrated the growing popularity of TEDxUNILAG. In a city like Lagos, where numerous events compete for public attention every weekend, the early sell out of tickets for a student organised conference highlights the strong interest and confidence the public has shown in the initiative.
