Troops under Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have successfully disrupted coordinated kidnapping attempts in Sokoto State, leading to the rescue of 22 abducted persons in separate missions across Sabon Birni and Isa Local Government Areas. The operations form part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security across the North West region.
According to military authorities, the first incident occurred on June 18 along the Sabon Birni Shinkafi Road in Kura Mota Village. Acting on credible intelligence, troops moved in after armed terrorists blocked the road and attacked two commercial vehicles, abducting passengers in the process. One civilian was reportedly killed during the attack before the assailants fled into surrounding forested areas with the victims.

In a separate but related operation the same day, troops responded to another distress call from Chohi Village in Isa Local Government Area, where armed bandits attempted to abduct farmers working on their farmlands. Soldiers were rapidly deployed to the area and pursued the attackers along their escape route. The pressure from the pursuit led to the release of five farmers, who were safely rescued and reunited with their families.
Following both operations, troops carried out confidence building patrols in nearby communities including Gidan Rana and Gidan Sale. The patrols were aimed at reassuring residents, maintaining a visible security presence, and preventing further attacks in the area.

He noted that the operations demonstrate ongoing efforts to deny criminal groups freedom of action while safeguarding vulnerable communities.
The latest rescues add to a growing list of operational successes recorded under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, as security forces continue intensified efforts against armed groups targeting rural communities and key transport routes across the North West.
