The EFCC has extradited two Nigerians, Mudashiru Afeez Olawale and Adebola Festus Adekunle, to the United States to face charges over alleged sextortion involving American teenagers.
The commission said its Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 facilitated the extradition on August 26, 2026, after investigations by US authorities linked the duo to schemes that targeted male minors aged between 13 and 17. The alleged activities involved the use of explicit material to extort money through money transfers, gift cards, and cryptocurrency.
According to the EFCC, one of the cases involved a 13-year-old boy who was contacted on Instagram and later threatened with the distribution of his private photos. The FBI reportedly continued monitoring communications even after the boy indicated he was considering taking his own life.
Olawale is facing a seven-count US indictment that includes charges of sexual exploitation of a minor resulting in death, enticement of a minor, interstate threats, and distribution of child pornography. The EFCC had earlier presented him before the Federal High Court in Lagos for extradition proceedings. Although the court initially rejected the application, the Court of Appeal later set aside that decision, clearing the way for his extradition.
The commission noted that the move reflects growing cooperation between Nigerian and US law enforcement agencies in handling cross-border cybercrimes.
