The United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, has described the recent surge in attacks against Christians in Nigeria as “a genocide disguised as chaos.” Speaking at an event organized by the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, Waltz painted a grim picture of the situation.
“There is clear evidence showing disproportionate suffering among Christians. Families are torn apart, clergy repeatedly assassinated, and entire congregations targeted,” Waltz said. “An entire faith is being erased—one bullet at a time, one torched Bible at a time.”
The event also featured American rapper Nicki Minaj, who spoke passionately about the plight of persecuted Christians. “In Nigeria, Christians are being targeted, driven from their homes, and killed. Churches are burned, families destroyed, and entire communities live in constant fear simply for practicing their faith,” she told attendees.
Organized with the support of political strategist Alex Bruesewitz, the gathering aimed to draw international attention to religious violence in Nigeria. It marks one of the highest-profile interventions addressing the crisis, with both Waltz and Minaj highlighting the scale of suffering and the urgent need for action.
The U.S. has previously flagged Nigeria as a country of particular concern due to ongoing attacks on religious minorities, though the Nigerian government has denied claims of targeted persecution. This latest statement by Waltz underscores growing global scrutiny over the safety of Christians in Africa’s most populous nation.
