Why I Quit Church – Carter Efe Opens Up About His Experience

zoyols

Nigerian streamer Carter Efe has opened up about the personal experiences that led him to stop attending church regularly, revealing that advice from a fellow content creator played a major role in his decision. Speaking during a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, he explained that he was once very committed to church activities, but his perspective changed after interactions with skit maker Sidney Talker, whom he once looked up to as a spiritually grounded role model.

According to him, the turning point came when Sidney advised him to step away from streaming content creation. He claimed that the advice felt unexpected, especially coming from someone who appeared to be deeply involved in church activities. Carter Efe explained that he also received another piece of advice suggesting that he should part ways with his streaming partner, Kolu, and give him about one million naira as compensation. He said he found the suggestion strange and difficult to accept, especially because he was just beginning to gain recognition in the streaming space at the time.

He went further to explain that Sidney reportedly warned him about continuing to work with Kolu, claiming that Kolu’s former boss, Portable, had spiritual powers that could potentially harm him. Carter Efe expressed confusion about the advice, questioning why someone who regularly attends church would still appear fearful of such spiritual threats. To him, the experience created doubts about the sincerity of some churchgoers, and he began to feel that the advice was driven by negative intentions rather than genuine concern for his growth.

He shared that the situation gradually affected how he viewed religious communities. Carter Efe said he noticed what he perceived as hypocrisy among some people who actively participate in church activities but still give advice he considers harmful to his career development. The experience ultimately influenced his decision to stop attending church the way he used to, as he wanted to focus more on personal growth and clarity about his career path.

Before he ventured into streaming, Carter Efe also spoke about a difficult period in his life when he struggled with depression. He explained that the pressure from the decline of skit-making trends affected his mental health for several months. However, he said things began to change after he started focusing on streaming content, which helped him regain confidence and purpose in his creative career. He now views the transition as part of his personal and professional growth journey.
