Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has stirred reactions online after opening up about his relationship with his estranged wife, May Edochie, during a teaser from an upcoming interview.
In the preview of his appearance on the Honest Bunch Podcast, the actor reflected on how their relationship started many years ago. According to him, he was just 22 years old when they became close. He recalled that they first met while sitting for their GCE examinations at the same centre before their bond gradually grew stronger as he prepared to enter higher institution.
Speaking further, Yul shared his opinion about relationships and marriage, advising men to learn how to establish limits in their relationships. He stated that a man should not lose himself completely in the name of love and must be able to draw clear boundaries regardless of emotions involved.
His comments have once again brought public attention to the long running issues surrounding his marriage to May and his relationship with fellow actress Judy Austin.
Back in March during Mother’s Day celebrations, Yul drew criticism after publicly celebrating Judy Austin and his mother while making no mention of May. The actor’s marriage crisis became one of the most talked about celebrity controversies after news of his relationship with Judy surfaced online.
The situation reportedly led to the breakdown of his marriage with May, whom he had been married to for over a decade. Their separation later escalated into legal proceedings, with reports claiming May filed for divorce and also sought legal action involving financial demands and restrictions concerning their former matrimonial home and family matters.
Yul and Judy have since built a family together and are parents to three sons named Star Dikeh, Pete Ndubuisi and Universe Yul Edochie.
Amid the controversy, May’s lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, had previously alleged that the actor was not contributing financially to the welfare and education of his children with May. He further claimed that May had continued to shoulder the responsibilities of caring for the children on her own.
Judy Austin had also addressed criticism surrounding their relationship in the past, stating that she met Yul years after the end of her previous marriage in 2013.
The family drama later extended to social media after Yul and May’s daughter, Danielle Yul Edochie, shared posts many interpreted as indirect shots at Judy Austin while celebrating her mother’s birthday. In the post, she praised May as the “original” and “first,” while describing her as blessed and highly favoured.
Danielle also appeared to distance herself from her father publicly by removing “Yul Edochie” from her social media name. She changed it from Danielle Yul Edochie to Danielle Diana Dubem, a move that sparked widespread reactions online.
Observers also noticed that Yul later unfollowed his daughter on Instagram and stopped engaging with her posts, further fueling speculation about tensions within the family.
