Yusuf Buhari, the son of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has officially stepped into the political arena by declaring his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections. The younger Buhari, who also holds the traditional title of Talban Daure, confirmed his ambition through a personally signed letter released on Monday, marking a significant move for the former first family.
In his formal declaration, Yusuf expressed a desire to represent the Sandamu, Daura, and Mai’adua Federal Constituency under the banner of the All Progressives Congress. He noted that his decision followed extensive consultations with various stakeholders and is driven by a commitment to provide qualitative leadership for his people. His primary focus will be on driving infrastructural projects and enhancing human capital development within the constituency.
The timing of the announcement is particularly noteworthy, coming just a week after key political figures in the Sandamu Local Government Area publicly endorsed him. During a high-level gathering at the local government secretariat, elected officials and political appointees from across the federal constituency voiced their collective support, positioning him as their preferred choice for the 2027 race.
Addressing his potential constituents and party members, Yusuf highlighted that his candidacy is aimed at contributing meaningfully to the growth of the region.
