Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede opened up about a deeply moving Mother’s Day experience, sharing how her son’s invitation brought her back to church for the first time in years. The heartfelt gesture left her in tears, filled with pride and gratitude.
“Went to church for the first time in a long while because my son invited me,” she shared. “Immediately, I saw the seriousness in his invitation, and I knew I had to go. Oh my, he made me so proud I shed tears. He’s not the shy type—truly my son—but this moment made me see myself differently. I’m grateful for life, grateful to be a mother, and grateful for such a gift. Happy Mother’s Day to me.”
Yvonne reflected further on the importance of family, noting that no matter how challenging life can be, coming home to loved ones makes it all worthwhile. “No matter how tough it is, no matter how much the world tries to weigh you down, the best part of life is coming home to your family. Everything just feels worth it. Happy Mother’s Day to every mother making the world a safe space,” she wrote.
The actress also praised her son for his maturity and independence, revealing that he has chosen to stay off social media. Calling him an “old soul,” she expressed that he has exceeded every expectation she had for him.
Yvonne’s journey as a mother hasn’t been without challenges. She met the father of her son, Xavier, on the set of Tade Ogidan’s drama series Behind the Siege. The couple married in a stylish Lagos ceremony in February 2018, but their union ended a year later while Yvonne was still pregnant.
She has been open about her ex-husband, Olakunle Fawole, describing him as largely absent in Xavier’s life. In interviews, Yvonne recounted that he has shown minimal support, rarely celebrated birthdays, and only visited once after an ultimatum. She also revealed that financial strain contributed to the breakdown of the marriage, noting that she had been the primary provider. Reflecting on the experience, she admitted she regretted prioritizing love over stability and that differences in maturity and perspective worsened the situation.
Despite the hardships, Yvonne continues to find joy and fulfillment in motherhood. Moments like her son’s church invitation serve as reminders of the love and pride that define her relationship with Xavier, inspiring her to keep moving forward with strength and gratitude.
